The Lobster Trap is a locally
owned restaurant dedicated to offering fresh seafood to
residents and visitors of Asheville, NC. Captain Tom
sends us lobsters in the morning right off his boat in Portland,
ME. Our trout comes fresh from the Shining Rock Wilderness area
of Pisgah National Forest.
My name is Amy Beard and I am the founder of The Lobster Trap.
I grew up working on the docks of Portland, Maine with Captain
Tom. In the morning I would steam and shuck lobsters for the
local restaurants. In the afternoon I hauled in the daily catch
from the lobster fishermen.
I developed a passion for the
sweet taste of Maine lobster and respect for the locally
regulated industry. |

When my parents moved to Topsail
Island, North Carolina I began to sample seafood the North
Carolina coast has to offer. My dad built an oyster pit in his
backyard and all the neighbors would come over for oyster
parties. The local fishermen taught me how to make cocktail
sauce.
I have always struggled with my love for the mountains versus my
love for the sea. The first day I arrived in Asheville, I knew
I was going to stay. Asheville has the same charm as Portland,
ME and being surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains gives me a
sense of peace. The only problem was that I missed the fresh
seafood of the coast. That is how The Lobster Trap was born. |
